Job Title: Operations & Fundraising Intern
Location: Remote
Duration: 4-6 months (Flexible, with potential for extension)
Commitment: 10–15 hours per week
Reports to: Operations and Finance Manager
Organizational Context
Sahar Education is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities for girls and young women in Afghanistan. Sahar partners with grassroots, locally-based organizations to create educational opportunities and safe learning spaces for girls and women in Afghanistan, empowering and inspiring children and their families to build peaceful, thriving communities. Through innovative programs focused on digital literacy, coding, leadership development, women’s health and empowerment, and sewing and literacy training, we empower young women to create brighter futures for themselves and their communities. Due to the bans on girls’ and women’s education in Afghanistan, all of our programs are underground.
Position Summary
Sahar Education is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Operations & Fundraising Intern to support our daily operations, fundraising efforts, and external communications. This role is ideal for students or early-career professionals looking to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, communications, fundraising and organizational operations. The intern will work closely with the Finance and Operations Manager to enhance Sahar’s impact and outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with researching, and identifying relevant grants and adding them to Sahar’s grant pipeline;
- Help organize and promote virtual and in-person events and fundraising campaigns;
- Conduct research on industry trends, donor prospects, and relevant news;
- Support the development of donor engagement materials and impact stories;
- Draft and edit content for social media, newsletters, and website updates;
- Assist in managing relationships with partners, donors, and stakeholders;
- Assist in administrative tasks, data entry, and organizing internal documents; Support the Operations & Finance Manager in maintaining GlobalGiving, Benevity, and other third-party platforms;
- Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor;
Reporting
The Operations and Fundraising Intern reports directly to the Operations & Finance Manager. This is a remote position.
Qualifications and Experience
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED, mandatory;
- University degree (or pursuing a university degree) in International Studies, Political Sciences, Geography, Communications, Journalism, or in a related field, desired;
- Interest in women’s studies, girls’ education, and gender equity, mandatory;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, mandatory;
- Excellent word processing skills, mandatory;
- Excellent organizational, priority setting,g and time management skills, mandatory;
- Experience working, studying, or volunteering abroad,is desirable;
- Secondary knowledge of Persian and/or Dari, is helpful;
