Controller (Director of Accounting)

Role Summary: 

The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer and work in our administration department to support our organizational mission of accelerating health equity globally. The Controller will be responsible for leading all accounting functions. This includes quarter-end closings, preparing financial statements, tax filings, audits, payroll, and accounts payable & receivable. The Controller supports the annual budget process, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting for non-profit entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and safeguards for financial transactions
  • Coordinate all financial audit activities
  • Prepare internal financial statements, business activity reports, and financial position forecasts
  • Manage all tax compliance requirements, including state and federal registrations, tax filings and tax reporting
  • Administer annual insurance coverage renewal
  • Advises senior leadership on organization’s financial position and processes, along with issues and developments in accounting
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement, establishing financial and administrative systems to support the organization’s operations
  • Communicate effectively with staff throughout the organization, leading the department to promote a positive, supportive and customer orientated environment
  • Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state regulations, and current GAAP accounting standards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, CPA or master’s preferred in Business Administration, or similar field
  • 5-7+ years of professional experience working and/or consulting in the nonprofit/NGO accounting  field; global experience preferred
  • Advanced skills using MIP and/or knowledge of comparable cloud-based accounting software
  • Experience with international transactions and accounting, including  translation of financial statements denominated in foreign currency
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with Excel for forecasting and reporting purpose
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to navigate in a fast-paced environment with a solid track-record of following through on commitments
  • Ability to communicate clearly across diverse cultures with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience working in a global and multicultural capacity across time zones and among diverse team
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

Compensation: We offer compensation commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is $145,233 to $203,326 USD. The typical hiring range for the position is $145,233 to $174,280 USD. Offers will factor in relevant candidate qualifications, cost of labor, pay equity, and geographical location. No relocation provided; remote location possible.
