Position Summary

Global Washington seeks a Strategic Advisor, Programs and Advocacy to develop the organization’s program strategy and launch plan to meet the current moment.  This full-time contract role will primarily contribute to GlobalWA’s mission by building a comprehensive strategy and implementation roadmap for GlobalWA’s programming and advocacy efforts.

The Strategic Advisor will shape strategy, facilitate cross-sector partnerships, and develop meaningful content and convenings to support our members’ impact worldwide. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, relationship-builder, and systems thinker who understands the complexities of global development and the power of collective action.

Key Responsibilities

Program and Advocacy Strategy

  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for GlobalWA’s programming and advocacy efforts, aligned with the organization’s mission and member needs.
  • Assess current program offerings (e.g., annual conference, learning series, working groups) and identify opportunities for innovation, heightened relevance, and impact.
  • Design a policy and advocacy framework to elevate Washington’s voice in global development at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Define priority focus areas, target audiences, and success metrics for programs and advocacy over the next 12–24 months.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Consult with GlobalWA members, partners, and global development community stakeholders to surface needs, interests, and opportunities for deeper collaboration.
  • Recommend strategies to foster cross-sector engagement, peer learning, and visibility within and beyond the GlobalWA network.
  • Develop a member engagement plan to support collective advocacy efforts, including calls to action, informational resources, and public campaigns.

Strategy Implementation Roadmap

  • Outline a phased approach to launch and sustain the new strategy, including staffing, partnerships, communications, and resourcing needs.
  • Recommend tools and processes for monitoring progress, measuring outcomes, and incorporating feedback for continuous iteration and improvement.
  • Provide guidance for implementation, including a proposed calendar of events, pilot initiatives, and potential funders or sponsors.

Operations

  • Contribute to annual conference planning, event planning, and impact reporting.
  • Support fundraising and development efforts, including grant writing and prospective donor engagement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in global development, public policy, nonprofit leadership, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of international development and/or global health, humanitarian response, human rights, or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and managing public-facing programs and advocacy campaigns.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to facilitate discussions and build consensus across diverse stakeholders.
  • Self-driven with proven project management and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in global development.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Washington state’s global development community.
  • Experience working in a membership-based, network organization and/or start-up.
  • Knowledge of funding streams relevant to global development or advocacy.
  • Cross-cultural competency and experience working with partners in the Global South.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The expected monthly range for this 3-month contract is $7,000 to $9,000 USD. Placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
  • This role is not eligible for benefits.
