About the Role
As Director of Communications, you’ll be the strategic architect of the Seattle Metro Chamber’s voice, leading efforts to elevate our brand, amplify our impact, and connect our work to the broader community. You’ll oversee a small but mighty communications team and drive integrated strategies across media relations, digital content, internal communications, and executive visibility.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned communicator who thrives in fast-paced environments, loves storytelling, and brings a strategic lens to every message.
What You’ll Do
- Lead & Inspire: Manage and mentor a high-performing communications team, setting clear goals and fostering professional growth.
- Shape Our Voice: Develop and implement messaging strategies that align with our strategic goals and resonate across audiences and platforms.
- Executive Communications: Partner closely with the CEO and senior leadership to craft speeches, talking points, op-eds, and thought leadership content that reflects the Seattle Metro Chamber’s voice and vision.
- Media Relations: Build strong relationships with local and regional media, lead proactive outreach, and provide media training to Seattle Metro Chamber leaders.
- Content Creation: Write and edit compelling content for web, social media, press releases, speeches, and internal communications, tailored to diverse audiences.
- Internal Communications: Partner with HR and leadership to keep staff informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Measure & Optimize: Track performance of communications initiatives and adjust strategies based on data, feedback, and impact.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work cross-functionally with departments and external partners & members to ensure consistent, mission-driven messaging.
Work Environment
We embrace a hybrid work model that values both collaboration and autonomy. This position requires consistent in-person presence, three days per week in our downtown Seattle office, as well as on-site or in-field work based on team meetings, events, and community engagement needs. The remaining two days may be worked remotely, provided the employee resides in Washington State.

What you Bring
- 6+ years of progressive communications experience, including media relations.
- Experience managing and mentoring a team.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex ideas for diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Public speaking and content adaptation experience.
- Familiarity with CRM (e.g., MC Trade) and web content management systems preferred.

Employment Details
The Chamber is committed to internal and market equity. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $95,451 – $116,000 annually, based on experience. The Chamber provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including but not restricted to:
