The landscape of Washington State’s global development sector has shifted significantly in the past year, and the disruption of traditional funding streams has fundamentally altered the sustainability model for organizations like ours. Our small staff capacity and limited resources, set against the rising need for year-round programming, has created an unsustainable operational model. Rather than continuing with diminished capacity or effectiveness, we’re choosing to close proactively while we can still do so with integrity and care for our community. 

Global Washington will cease operations on June 30, 2026. Until that time, we are focused on completing our responsibilities thoughtfully and transparently, and all planned programming and current memberships will continue through that time. 

Yes, all programming will continue through the end of June. Where possible, we’re working to connect members with alternative organizations and resources. 

Current memberships will remain active through the end of June, meaning all members will continue to have full access to GlobalWA events and resources, including the job board.

Here’s what to expect based on your membership type and when you joined.

For Individuals

All individual members (regardless of the date you joined) will automatically receive a full refund. No action is required—refunds will be processed automatically on March 13, 2026. 

Note: Individual memberships launched in September 2025, so all individual members joined recently. To streamline our closure process, we’re issuing automatic full refunds to all individuals rather than requiring forms for small, prorated amounts. 

For Organizations

1) Organizational members who joined or renewed after December 18, 2025 will automatically receive a full refund. No action is required—refunds will be processed automatically on March 13, 2026. 

2) Organizational members who joined or renewed between June 1 and December 18, 2025 have the option to complete the Membership Preference Form by March 12 to request a prorated refund for the unused portion of your membership OR to donate that amount to support GlobalWA’s legacy preservation. 

Example: Your organization renewed in October 1 2025 for $350. You’ll receive service through June 1 2026 (8 months), so you’re eligible for a refund of the unused 4 months: $117. 

We know the need for connection, learning, and collaboration in Washington State’s global development community is greater than ever. We’re actively working with partner organizations to explore how key programs and resources can continue in new forms. The relationships and networks built through GlobalWA will endure beyond the organization itself.
