This position reports within the Strategic Partnerships and Philanthropy group, creating and sustaining strategic relationships – beyond traditional philanthropy – with a focus on generating long-term, high-impact partnerships. PATH has a long history of collaboration with the private sector and global foundations, both of which are essential to the success and sustainability of our work. We are pioneers in working with the private sector, mobilizing the resources of our partners worldwide to strengthen vulnerable communities and save lives.
This position is a key partner within PATH’s team of over 1,400 PATH employees in 20 global offices – who every year lead more than $300m of programs and impact on people’s health and well-being.
The Strategic Partnership Officer will report jointly to the Director for Foundations, Trusts and Corporate Philanthropy (primary reporting), and to the Director for Corporate Engagement (secondary). The Officer will facilitate the development and execution of strategic relationships with global foundations, and multinational corporations across three key sectors: Life Sciences, Technology and Private Foundations. They will build new partnerships to generate significant strategic awards, flexible and unrestricted revenue, as well as non-financial resources in support of PATH priorities. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Proactively research, approach, and secure mutually beneficial partnerships that advance our mission of improving global health.
- Build and manage a portfolio of large and complex partnerships with leading organizations.
- Design and execute strategic relationship plans to strengthen and deepen existing relationships.
- Develop tactical approaches to major national and international organizations – planning, leading and implementing new business generation meetings, reaching decision makers within organizations and orchestrating senior support when appropriate.
- Mobilize multiple stakeholders to execute on activities and projects.
- Coordinate corporate engagement events. Make presentations as required.
- Partner with internal groups at PATH to build appropriate private sector relationships.
- Facilitate contracts where appropriate, ensuring ethical checks are in place.
- Ensure due diligence and risk analysis are completed for potential corporate relationships, working within PATH’s guidelines for risk management.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure smooth execution of partner marketing plans.
Expected Capabilities, Outcomes and Key Result Areas
- Quantitative: Revenue and other material support for the institution and programs. A growing portfolio of strategic relationships aligned with and supporting PATH’s programs and institutional strategy.
- Qualitative: Intuition to find the shared interests between parties. Initiative, diligence, and creativity to build sustained partnerships between complex, matrixed global organizations. Capacity to manage multiple dynamic projects simultaneously. A preoccupation to deliver results.
- Five plus years in a fundraising, business, sales, or client-facing role ideally in a complex global business or not-for-profit organization with a record of quantified fundraising and partnership success.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying, cultivating and securing business partnerships.
- Background in large not-for-profit organizations, an emphasis on global health is desirable.
- Ability to effectively influence organizational leaders, including business division leadership, corporate social responsibility leaders, and foundation leaders.
- Understanding of philanthropic trends, corporate social responsibility and shared value partnerships with INGOs.
- Strong relationship-building skills and a client-centered approach to opportunities.
- Exceptional communications skills with the ability to produce and oversee development of compelling executive level presentations, written proposals, and other market development materials.
- Resourceful and tenacious, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment on a team that is central to PATH’s growth strategy.
- Driven, motivated and proactive – with a resilient, solutions-focused attitude.
- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to proactively identify opportunities.
- Intellectually curious and capable of understanding the multiple facets of PATH’s work.
- Demonstrated commitment to, and enthusiasm for, PATH’s global mission and programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate challenging or ambiguous situations to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of customer relationship management databases.
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
