Committee for Children is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced public relations manager to join our team! As an ideal candidate you’re an experienced writer, editor, storyteller, relationship builder, and public relations pro with substantial media relations hits to demonstrate your ability to garner strategic media pick-up. You’re a results-driven go-getter who is comfortable wearing multiple hats and can quickly write a byline or craft a targeted pitch. You’re also enthusiastic and dynamic in your ability to connect with others. You’ll report to the public relations and communications director, and you’ll work closely with key stakeholders across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Helping to secure great media coverage for our products
  • Helping to manage major events, media tours, and product launches
  • Help Committee for Children in growing its brand awareness all over the world
  • Working cross-functionally with marketing, sales, product, and executive teams to tell the best Committee for Children stories at the right time
  • Developing, executing, and evaluating strategic media and public relations campaigns in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Managing media relations: field media requests for interviews, proactively pitch and seek coverage of CFC’s initiatives and products, develop professional connections with key education and edtech reporters/editors, and manage news service and media database vendor accounts
  • Managing, coaching, and mentoring a senior public relations specialist by managing their career development and opportunities for growth within the organization
  • Building PR strategies in support of product launches and sales
  • Developing communications outreach plans to promote CFC information and
  • Building and managing relationships with key trade media and industry influencers—which includes understanding the education media landscape, identifying new contacts, and building relationships with newcomers and key freelancers
  • Fostering excellent media relations, especially with education publications
  • Managing the strategy and execution of all product-related media relations and press events
  • Overseeing the development of all product-related media materials, such as press releases, fact sheets, and product overviews
  • Managing a coordinated PR calendar
  • Proactively seeking out story ideas and market trends
  • Leading internal operations for media relations reporting (such as KPIs and media tracking)
  • Building a highly functioning team by creating clear and consistent workstreams
  • Serving as a spokesperson on behalf of the association


  • BA or BS degree in communications or marketing
  • At least five years of experience in public relations, media relations, or communications; two years managing a team; specific work within the education sector preferred
  • Strong PR writing skills, journalism/public relations background
  • History of securing high-level press placements and ability to reach senior journalists
  • Previous experience pitching to print, broadcast, and digital media
  • Ability to manage a PR campaign from top to bottom: from research and planning to execution and reporting
  • Must be an articulate and persuasive communicator with outstanding writing skills
  • Executive presence, high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and judgment
  • Hands-on understanding of social media channels
  • Understanding of news and industry trends and ability to and identify them
  • Knowledge of additional media tools, including visual assets and audio formats
  • Established media relationships (business and trade press a plus)
  • Knowledge of communications tools such as Cision/Vocus, LexisNexis, PR Web, PR Newswire, along with SEO, SEM, and Google Analytics
  • Periodic travel required
