Instructional Designer: Contact-to-hire
We are looking for an instructional designer with experience in designing e-learning programs and online interactive community-based education to help MovingWorlds scale its professional development programs.
MovingWorlds is a growing social enterprise that is building the skills and abilities of people working to scale social impact across programs. Our efforts are helping accelerate the progress of the global social enterprise movement and enabling more people to work in world-positive careers. We have doubled in the last two years and expect double-digit growth again this next year.
We operate a portfolio of programs for individuals, corporations, and capacity-building organizations. While our experteering platform was launched nearly a decade ago and remains in operation, our growth is being driven through our MovingWorlds Institute Global Fellowship which helps individuals advance their for-impact careers, our S-GRID program, as well as through corporate-sponsored programs with companies like Microsoft, SAP, PayPal, Kering, and more.
Contractor Description & Impact
All of our high-growth programs involve adult learning. This includes programs like:
- The MovingWorlds Institute, which helps professionals find more purpose and create more impact in their careers.
- Corporate education programs, live the Avanade Citizenship program, which educates internal influencers within companies to scale social impact.
- Corporate Experteering programs, which involves training our users on how to use our Experteering platform, and how to be effective in skills-based volunteering.
- The S-GRID program, which trains social enterprises on how to find and grow partnerships with the private sector to help create a more sustainable economy.
In 2020, we invested in a Learning Management System and have integrated it with our platform and back-end systems to help with automations and workflows. MovingWorlds also has a community site, which it hopes to integrate into the LMS.
We are looking to hire a contractor for a 3-to-6-month engagement, with the potential offer for full-time employment after. We will consider applications for both full-time and part-time support (minimum of 16 hours / week).
The ideal candidate will have deep experience in instructional design for adults, community-based learning modules, e-learning, and who cares deeply about social impact.
Work will primarily fall into 7 categories:
1: Learning Management System Design and Optimization
You’ll help reformat our existing learning content and optimize it for our new Learning Management System. This will include recommendations for structuring content, creating content, and program managing the process. You’ll know that you’ve been successful when users engage in the content in our LMS and we see a learning lift on key topics.
2: Community-Based Learning Interaction
Work with the MovingWorlds Institute Director to optimize the content, structure, and interactions on our LMS for community- and peer-based learning. You’ll know that you’ve been successful here when data tells us that learning experiences for our members are increasing over time.
3: New Learning Program Development
Building on your skills in instructional design, you will help build the structure and learning program to move one of our pilot programs to its next phase. You will collaborate directly with the Director of the MovingWorlds Institute, Senior Corporate Program Manager, and the CEO. You’ll know that you have been successful when our program has moved to the LMS and participants rate it at or above existing quality related to meeting their learning objectives.
4: Content and Homework/Assignment Creation
Programs and learning courses will benefit from homework/assignments. This position will help develop the assignments that will compliment group-based sessions, online learning courses, and self-paced work to help people achieve learning goals.
Work with our team to improve upon and add new metrics to measure the efficacy and quality of our learning content, sessions, assignments, and programs.
6: Human-Centered Approach
In all our programs, we obsess over listening to our stakeholders and designing on their behalf. To do your work, you’ll have to interview, observe, and receive feedback from our user base on all of the above topics.
7 (optional): Facilitation of Real-Time Sessions
Sometimes, programming might require facilitation. MovingWorlds has staff trained in facilitation, but we might need help as our programs continue to grow. Especially if this is something you are energized by, there will be opportunities for you to facilitate sessions as part of the programs.
We have not yet hired someone for this role before, we are starting with a contract position to more fully understand the profession, processes, and timing of these workloads. However, our team does have experience in education, facilitation, and training on learning experience design.
We believe that we will need full-time support for this role as we continue to grow. At this time, we are looking for a contractor that can work part-time or full-time.
MovingWorlds is a small team that is funding its growth on revenues instead of raising capital in order to stay committed to its impact. MovingWorlds is committed to a fair and equitable pay across its global team, and it uses a pro-rata adjustment calculator so that every team member is paid at an equal level compared to published market data for their roles.
For this role, you can expect to be paid at a level of 75% of what is listed as fair market data for your role, in your city, in the nonprofit sector. Because of our global reach, this can be somewhere between $20,000 and $40,000 for a six-month contract (or $40,000 to $80,000 annualized). Please note that MovingWorlds will share a transparent calculation for your salary. MovingWorlds may also elect to hire a more senior person in a part-time capacity for this position based on the application pool.
More information about salary, as well as the MovingWorlds approach to equal and fair pay, will be shared early in the process.
Please note that we know this is a below market salary, and our every intent is to grow to market rates. We grew 40% last year, are tracking for more than 40% growth this year, and have high aspirations for next year, too. Now is a really exciting time to be joining our team and we hope to have us all to market level salaries by the end of 2021.
