Organization Description
All As One is dedicated to responding to the critical dilemma of children and young adults in Sierra Leone who are orphaned, abandoned, abused, disabled, or destitute, and who have an urgent need for food, housing, education, training and medical support, preparing them to eventually become self-sufficient. Sierra Leone is ranked as the least developed out of 177 countries in the world on the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI). The HDI combines indicators for three dimensions of human development into one summary measure:1)a long and healthy life, measured by life expectancy at birth2)knowledge, measured by adult literary rate and combined enrollment ratio for primary, secondary and tertiary schools;3)a decent standard of living, measured by GDP per capita. All As One is committed to targeting all three specific areas of the HDI including average life expectancy, adult literacy rate and GDP per capita by:Building hospitals and training doctors in Sierra Leone to raise life expectancy at birth.Building schools and vocational colleges to educate and provide job skills to Sierra Leoneans to raise adult literacy rates.Working to create a civil society and leadership in Sierra Leone that encourages investment and job opportunities to raise the GDP per capitaWe believe that by saving lives and empowering Sierra Leone’s citizens to become self-sufficient, they will become catalysts for positive change within their own country. All As One chooses to work within the culture and community of Sierra Leone to affect these changes.
Example Project
All As One currently operates the All As One Children's Center, an orphanage, school and medical clinic in Freetown, Sierra Leone. We have been working in Sierra Leone since 2000 and have saved hundreds of children's lives. We have recently purchased six acres of land just outside Freetown on which to build a new hospital, community school and children's homes that will serve thousands of Sierra Leoneans every year.
