Organization Description
AHOPE for Children supports AHOPE Ethiopia, a local NGO that has two orphanages exclusively for the care of HIV infected orphans located in Addis Ababa. In partnership with another charity, the antiretroviral medications have been provided to our children since the fall of 2005. In addition, there is a community outreach program to provide services and other help to encourage what is left of the orphan’s families to care for the children at home rather than abandoning them to orphanage care, plus on-going community education programs to counteract prevailing misinformation and superstition surrounding HIV/AIDS. Mission Statement: The mission of African HIV Orphans: Project Embrace (AHOPE) is to offer a two-pronged approach to the devastation caused by the AIDS virus in Ethiopia: Provide a nurturing, stimulating, loving home for infected children orphaned by the disease Provide comprehensive, accurate education to families, staff, and the local community regarding AIDS prevention and care of infected loved ones.
